Concrete Slab Replacement
Project Owner: CMC Metals
Project Client: CMC Metals
Project Cost: Less than $1 million dollars
Project Duration: 2 weeks
Simpson & Brown was working in accordance with a facility outage in order to remove and replace a compromised slab in the middle of the winter season. An aggressive project schedule, weather challenges, and matching existing conditions were all issues encountered and overcome by our project team.
The overall project required the exposure, demolition, and replacement of an existing concrete pad which is used to stage scrap metal prior to processing. The facility outage provided a two-week window to clear the existing concrete pad, identify the limits of demolition, establish a grading plan to facilitate drainage, remove the existing concrete, and finally restore the concrete to allow the facility to be up and running as soon as possible. The Simpson & Brown crew performed demolition of an 18″-thick concrete slab, grading and subbase prep, formwork and reinforcing steel placement, concrete placement, and curing all while facing the typical challenges associated with winter concrete work. A detailed work plan, pre-job coordination, extended work hours, and attention to quality control for concrete installation yielded a successful project, and a satisfied customer.
