Mercer County Bridge

672.4 over Doctor’s Creek

Project Challenges:

The project required the cofferdam and piles to be installed using low clearance pile driving equipment. The installation of the precast concrete beams required the use of 2 cranes performing a tandem lift. The project was stopped due to issues with the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund, but after resuming work Simpson & Brown completed the job in the winter months.

Work Performed:

  • Demolition of the existing bridge
  • Temporary reroute of the active water line to allow for new bridge construction
  • Installation of cofferdam and pile supported bridge footings
  • Construction of abutment walls and wing walls
  • Rip Rap and Scour protection in Doctor’s Creek
  • Installation of Precast Concrete Beams
  • Concrete bridge deck, approach slabs, parapet walls and associated work
  • Below grade drainage and water main work
  • Profile Milling and paving to match existing grades
